Ida Wenøe
Danish indie-folk singer/songwriter Ida Wenøe shares new single ‘One Step’ the first to be taken from forthcoming third album due March 2021 via Integrity Records.
One Step is immersed in Ida’s delicate beauty and natural instinct for storytelling, built around a blend of indie folk noir and Americana which she describes the track as, “About darkness, empty spaces, the presence of death and longing for the innocence of childhood”.
There is an elegance to the layering of instruments in ‘One Step’, opening with a tender guitar hook and Ida’s beguiling vocals, stalked by a horn like a distant memory. Building to an elevation with drums and piano akin to ‘Boxer’ era The National. All of which makes this a captivating listen to the first glimpse of the new album.
After a successful tour in the UK throughout February/March 2020 Ida returned to Denmark just ahead of lockdown and began trying to write new music which she describes as: “When the world shut down, my mind shut down. Free time to be creative? Not so much. I pushed and pushed but desperation almost took me over the edge. In the end I found this song after many attempts, like a hidden gem that would only show its face when I'd been so close to giving up.”
