Sophia Hansen-Knarhoi
Following debut single Disguise, Sophia Hansen-Knarhoi shares new single The Sea taken from forthcoming EP Wildflowers.
Recorded at home while working with Julia Wallace on Flugelhorn ‘The Sea’ flows with a calmness of changing tide washing over with a graceful magnetism fused in elements of ambient folk, gospel and chamber pop. Lyrically chronicling the loss of Sophia’s childhood self, written at the precipice of womanhood, this elegiac dialogue with her younger self reveals the pieces left behind, and the trauma and pain that follow her still.
The ’Wildflowers EP’ – due for release soon – Showcases the grit and elegance of Sophia as a self made artist. Growing as a Cellist, guitarist and classical vocalist, Sophia’s world of music began to streamline into her new found love for sound design. Working in composition for contemporary dance and theatre opened her to a new sonic world of storytelling. Working to tell the stories of her collaborators as well as her own around womanhood, trauma and humanity, Sophia pulls you close with her torrent of passion and a vocal presence that begs not to look away.
Discussing the new single Sophia explains: “I wrote The Sea when I finally found the answers I needed from my younger self. I had been deeply wounded by some experiences in my late teens, before I had even started to find my feet as a woman. Following some relationship fallout in my life, I started to discover this damage I had left unexamined, and began to understand the hurt of my inner child.”
