Bryony Williams
West Midlands solo artist Bryony Williams releases new EP State I’m In via Beth Shalom Records on 30th October.
Preceded by the singles I Can Be and Knockin, State I’m In marks the third EP release for Bryony Williams with Wanderlust 2016 & Conscious 2018 both self released.
Falling in the realms of indie pop/rock, Bryony’s songwriting prowess is bold and honest, weaving a heady mix of guitar hooks and assured drums coming to the fore in the recent singles. While the next single to be taken from the EP Dive, Bryony describes as “my most delicate piece of work to date”.
Discussing the singles taken from the EP, Bryony states: “Knockin’ encapsulates my take on depression and how intrusive it is. It’s an outcry of ownership mixed with a whole lot of anger because it can hit at any moment and goes on the invisible attack. Which is why so much of the instrumentation is a new level of aggression for me, like distorting the hell out of the floor tom and using it as the introductory monotonous beat. It’s a reflection of what it’s like to be stuck in your own little head.”
On I Can Be, Bryony said: "The meaning of the song came from my own frustrations and fears of the future, while also consciously taking myself on a journey; to flesh out that inner confidence and to own who you are. You're going to uncover and encourage parts of your personality that let you feel like your authentic and badass self. My summary: be you, have fun and to hell with what others may think."
Discussing the forthcoming single from ‘State I’m In’, Bryony states: “Dive was the first song I wrote after returning home from my 3-month backpacking world adventure, which is just as surprising to me about where this solemnness manifests? I think Dive is an ode to my other track, Silhouette. There are lyrical comparisons and a certain solitude. Yet, rather than being directed towards one person in mind, I think Dive delves deeper than that; where instead of saying goodbye to somebody else, perhaps I’m saying goodbye to my old self, “oh how I better myself."
She goes on to add: "I wanted to keep the arrangement super sparse and delicate, with the grand piano paving the way, accompanied by 4-year old violin strings, Apparat-inspired guitar, the rustle of a teaspoon, and Matt Allwright’s ebbing pedal steel. This is my most exposing work yet. I’ve dived in head first; will you dive in after me?"
Released on Limited Edition Coloured Vinyl, the EP will also be accompanied by 2018 EP Conscious preorder here
