Discussing the new single Sarah Beth Tomberlin explains: “‘happy accident’ is a song about relational obscurity. Trying to sort out who you are or who you were to someone, is this relationship romantic or is it just sex? Do you want to spend time with me or are you just bored? Do I make my own decisions that are good for me or are my decisions predominantly based on what I think you might want or need? I was kind of walking through moments in previous relationships in my life. I wanna know why someone wants to get to know me. Do you want to know me or just your idea of me? Do I want to know you or just my idea of you?”

I Don’t Know Who Needs To Head This’ features Cass McCombs on guitar, Felix Walworth on drums and Philip Weinrobe, who co-produced the album, on bass. With much of the album being recorded live, the cast of players followed Sarah Beth’s lead through the tracks she’d written while adding improvisations and their own stamp on the sessions creating a community aesthetic across ‘I Don’t Know Who Needs To Head This’. However Sarah Beth remains at the fore throughout the albums 50 minutes.

Following her first full length album since 2018’s debut album ‘At Weddings’, Tomberlin comments: “My first record, I made it without knowing I was making it, I was writing songs to process stuff from my personal life as it was happening, and then suddenly everything was happening really fast. Record label, tour, press, all this momentum and a lot of advice about my career, which, you know, I never even expected to have. So I think when I started to write the second record, I felt a lot of pressure to make it sound collected and profound, almost like a book—chapters, a narrative, everything nicely wrapped up.”
