Stag and Dagger Festival Announces First Wave of Acts for 2023 in Edinburgh and Glasgow
Stag and Dagger, Scotland's original and biggest multi venue festival, has announced its first wave of acts for the two day event coming to Edinburgh Saturday 29 April and Glasgow Sunday 30 April 2023.
Headliners include the Atlanta garage rock band Black Lips who will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album. British-German post-punk duo Lebanon Hanover have top billing too, as well as Bristol's techno-metal noise unit Scalping.
Also joining the bill at this stage are female-fronted indie gang Swim School. They are among the homegrown acts playing Stag & Dagger also including Shredd, Lloyd’s House, Moonsoup and more in what is set to be a very good year for Scottish music.
There are still many more acts to be announced in the run up to the event. Over 30 touring and local acts will play each city.
Early bird tickets are on sale now for £15 + booking fee.
The festival focuses on new music and upcoming talent. Previous line ups featured artists who went on to become major international stars such as Ed Sheeran, Lizzo and Passenger.
Other outstanding past acts included Royal Blood, Django Django, Frightened Rabbit, Toro Y Moi, Ghostpoet, The Twilight Sad, Mac DeMarco, We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Hold Steady, The Strokes' Albert Hammon Jr, Fat White Family, Ezra Furman, Band Of Skulls, DMA's, Gang Of Youths, Let's Eat Grandma and Glasvegas.
Edinburgh venue Sneaky Pete’s are part of the booking team. Manager Nick Stewart said: “Stag and Dagger is my highlight of the year. I’m so excited to announce it’s back in 2023."
“I’ve been to every Glasgow edition and always loved it. As well as a chance to discover bands, gig-goers can check out venues they may never have been to before. This will be the third year for the festival in Edinburgh. The past two events have been outstanding. No question it’s the best event of its kind. The buzz in the street and in venues is something else. And it's really good value too.”
"This first wave of acts is just the beginning, we’ve got some tricks up our sleeves. We love that often the bands audiences don’t know yet will be the real stars. So keep an eye out for more big names and hotly anticipated upcoming talent to be announced in the coming weeks."
