Scott Lavene

Scott Lavene shares new single Prettiest Peach recorded with Benjamin Woods of the Golden Dregs releases via Nothing Fancy, his first new music since last year's album Milk City Sweethearts.

Featuring his trademark trenchant wordplay and aptitude at story-telling, backed with funky bassline Prettiest Peach is his first new music since last year's album Milk City Sweethearts, discussing the new single Scott explains: “Prettiest Peach came from a conversation with an aunt and brother at my Dad’s funeral. It’s about my family and humans in general, leaning towards the bright light, how people are odd and how oddness is excellent, how characters should be celebrated. It’s also about how the men in my family are generally a bit shit whereas mum, all mums, most mums, somehow hold it all afloat.”

Having been unable to properly tour 2019 album Broke because of lockdown, last year’s Milk City Sweethearts got Scott playing live again, where he found a steady stream of fans travelling miles to attend his shows and telling him how his music meant to them, which he comments: “After lockdown i was happy to give up playing live really. I like staying at home. I’d had some good gigs previous but a lot of them were paying my dues, driving to Leeds or Liverpool, playing to six people and it costing me fifty quid. But what happened is that the shows had people in them, people that told me my songs got them through lockdown, people asking for photos and traveling miles to see me play. I think they’re all sickos but I love them. But, most importantly, it was the ones that said my music gave them hope during bad mental health times.  That’s better than a 10/10 review in Pitchfork any day. Though I wouldn't mind that as well.”

Next year comes Scott’s own headline tour and a new album recently recorded with Benjamin Woods of the Golden Dregs (4AD). Scott has also started a new series of (mostly) monthly short stories entitled Bits & Bobs for those fans who are signed up to his mailing list.
