Genn
Brighton based transnational alternative-indie four piece Ġenn (pronounced Jenn) share their new 6 track EP Liminal released via Everything Sucks Music.
Featuring the recent singles ‘Mackerel’s Funky Mission’, ‘Feel’ & ‘23rd' March’ the new EP highlights a list of varied influences taking in shades of The Slits & Jefferson Airplane while developing these with contemporary funk nods towards Warpaint & Goat Girl with these coming to the fore on opening track Feel, while tracks such as Catalyst and 23rd March verge more towards a punk aesthetic of The Slits or The Raincoats with closing track Falling Out bringing back the funk aspect of the EP for a rousing finale.
Liminal is a collection of tracks from a band offering a unique twist to post-punk from their own DIY framework. Speaking about the most recent single, ‘Mackerel’s Funky Mission’ singer, Leona comments: "I think Mackerel's Funky Mission is an escapism mechanism, you sort of pretend to be someone else, in this case, a fish, to escape from a current situation. It's fun to pretend you're something else and write from that perspective. It was also inspired by the lockdown as I wanted to be a fish just to be able to travel, and also by my love for the sea. I tried to be as visual as possible with the lyrics and the story.
