Holobeams
Glasgow born producer and now resident of Japan Iain Foxwell otherwise known as Holobeams serves up Illumination a collection of ten tracks of previous and new material released on cassette and digital download via Illuminated Paths. Speaking about the release and label Foxwell says “The tape format is exactly the sound and feel I've been aiming for so the music has found it's natural home. Illuminated paths have released quite a few good artists I’ve listened to over the last few years so it's great to be in amongst them”.
Recent single A Place Unknown opens up proceedings with a rebirthing soundscape of synths and keyboards blending in samples for an earthly texture of bright electronica. This is carried over into Arashiyama where earthly textures begin much likes its namesake as a district on the outskirts of Kyoto before beats start to drive us in a train like motion back into a busy city scene of a Ridley Scott film.
The contrast in natural and suburban landscapes shape much of the album with tracks such as Cherry Blossom Melt where a back drop of loops could be likened towards birds at the sea or busy streets the beauty is that it is left onto the listener to imagine. Even the album cover artwork conveys a contrast in either a fully bloomed tree or satellite city image.
